In the beginning God looked at His new world with pleasure. In the days prior to the creation of man, God
said, “It is good”. On the sixth day He created man and said, “It is not good for man to be alone”! Then
He created woman, and then God said, “It is very good!” Mankind, created in God’s own image, is the
crowning glory of His creation. Man was set over the works of God’s hands and all things were placed
under his feet Psalms 8:4ff. The world was made for man and God intended for him to fill it with righteous
inhabitants. God told Adam and Eve to be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth Genesis 1:28.
Isaiah records for us:
Isaiah 45:18, “For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and
made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I [am] the LORD; and
[there is] none else”.
The world is not an afterthought of God. Man is not the product of evolutionary chance. The earth was
created with purpose. It was created to be inhabited by man. Any theory, which advocates anything other
than this view, must be rejected. Such a view would be an inadequate explanation of the origin of the
universe. The Psalmist declares, “The heavens are the Lord’s but the earth hath He given to the children
of men”. Psalms 115:6. Yes, man was made to live and rule here.
